NatSolis is going to design and set up a Spatial Decision Support System (SDSS) to integrate the spatial dimension of NBS in the planning process and to test and validate it in Italian case studies. The results of the Project will support planners in the analysis and selection of suitable and effective NBS solutions by looking together at different types of urban issues and spatially identifying the benefits these solutions can generate, also informing the design of Spatial Plans of NBS.
The SDSS will act as a set of models to integrate the main relevant urban issues, such as climate regulation, water regulation, lack or unequal distribution of urban functions (spatial justice), quality of urban environment, and urban regeneration. Selected NBS will be modeled in a dedicated GIS-based module of the SDSS. At the same time, a Spatial Multi-criteria Analysis in a Benefit Assessment Module will allow the evaluation of the costs and benefits produced by different NBS in a spatially explicit way and under different scenarios.
The project will provide planners and urban decision-makers with knowledge and awareness about the costs of implementation, potential trade-offs, performances, and equity of generated benefits that the urban environment and urban residents can receive from different scenarios of the geographic distribution of NBS.
